Sedation

Fear of the dentist (dental phobia) is still well present in the population today, despite systematic care under local anaesthetic during dental procedures. Conscious sedation by gas inhalation (nitrous oxide) is an excellent alternative to relaxant premedication before dental care or a general anaesthetic.

Conscious sedation by nitrous oxide, commonly known as "laughing gas", can improve patient wellbeing by decreasing anxiety and facilitates quality care. This technique can be applicable also for certain children. However, full collaboration of the patient or child is absolutely indispensable to ensure its success. The "good" candidate for nitrous oxide sedation is a patient who is anxious, but demonstrates a willingness to be treated.

Nitrous oxide sedation is very easy to use with a slight decrease of consciousness, but has the advantage to allow the patient to respond normally to physical stimulation and verbal commands. Its rapidity of action and elimination without any accumulation in the organism (body), and without any delayed effect, guarantees its use with a high level of security.

Our centre has several practitioners who are well experienced in the use of conscious sedation by nitrous oxide.
