Marie Cornelis graduated in Dental Medicine in 1999 from the University of Leuven, Brussels. She then received her title of Specialist in Orthodontics there in 2003 after 4 years of full-time training.
Marie Cornelis then combined exclusive private orthodontic practice with clinical research in collaboration with the Department of Orthodontics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she spent 2007 as a Visiting Research scholar. Her work culminated in a PhD defended in 2008 and was awarded the WJB Houston Oral Research Award from the European Orthodontic Society the same year.
From 2008 to 2010, she completed a Diplôme Universitaire en Orthodontie Linguale at Descartes University in Paris.
Marie Cornelis has given over 30 lectures at international conferences and is the author of over 20 publications in international scientific journals and 3 book chapters.
